During the procedure, the tooth will be opened through the biting surface, allowing the doctor to access the root canals. The tissue or infection in the affected tooth is removed, and the canals are cleaned. A series of files is used to remove any remaining tissue and slightly enlarge the canals. Once the tooth has been completely cleaned, the root canals are sealed with gutta percha, a rubber-like material, and a root canal sealer, acting as a barrier against bacteria and debris from entering the canals and causing further issues. Finally, your general dentist will seal the tooth with a filling or crown.
